These wooden flowers grow on the volcanic slopes in Guatemala. The Mayan people called them ""roses of the netherworld"" because they were the only flowers which grew in the ""lower world"" and were able to escape to the beautiful, sunlit, upper slopes of the inactive volcanoes.
