Storage drawers built into the base handle folded clothes, socks and spare sheets, opening on metal slides with round knobs that suit the modern headboard above. The base is fully enclosed rather than open underneath, which keeps dust out and removes the chore of cleaning under the bed. Eight plywood slats and solid wood support legs carry a 350 lbs load without a box spring, and the recessed platform keeps bedding from creeping toward the edge.
