This bell tent pitches around a center steel pole into a round footprint with 2.2 feet of vertical side wall, which is what keeps the floor usable out to the perimeter instead of tapering off where a low dome would force everyone toward the middle. The M size shown here measures 13.5 by 7.2 feet with a 6.3-foot doorway and sleeps four to six, and the same shell is built at 16.7 by 9.8 feet for six to eight and 10 by 6.5 feet for two to four. The canopy is Oxford fabric joined to a PVC netted groundsheet, so ground damp and crawling insects stay outside the sleeping area rather than being managed with a separate tarp. Water is turned away at the two places tents usually leak: a rainproof cap sits over the pole opening at the peak, and splash-proof zippers stop run-off from wicking through the door seams. Warm weather is handled by mesh windows and mesh door panels that cross-ventilate the interior, while top vents near the peak bleed off the warm damp air that otherwise condenses on the inner wall by morning. For cold weather the wall carries a stove jack, so a compatible heat source can be vented properly instead of improvised. Guy lines glow in the dark and adjust individually to keep the shell tensioned on uneven ground, a zippered reversed cable hole passes a power lead inside without leaving a gap open, built-in storage pockets hold phones, eyeglasses and chargers off the floor, and the center pole carries a hanging loop for a lamp. Pitching runs through four steps, and the M shell packs down to 37 pounds in the included carrying bag.
